Through our year-long experience, we know and recognize that people are the fundamental pillar for our operation and development, as their participation involved in every step of the process is obvious

Adopting virtues such as mutual respect, cooperation, teamwork, trust, and a familiar atmosphere, we have created a code of ethics that describes our own business ethics. It is as important as product safety, its biological value, but also respecting the environment.

The chief judge for the fulfillment of our commitments is our own staff, producers, and partners. Their opinion and interaction are important; for this reason, they have been placed at the center of the whole activity.

our production

Thanks to our vertical integration-related approach, we monitor every stage of production. Starting from our two groups of producers, the olive trees grow using innovative protocols for sustainable development.

Olives are harvested at the right time and delivered at the olive-oil press under conditions for strict transparency and hygiene. They undergo cold pressing within a few hours of harvest, to offer us the best possible extra virgin olive oil.

Its traceability, taste, and aroma are strictly monitored up to the point of bottling, ensuring that only the award-winning quality Terra Creta extra virgin olive oil reaches the consumer.

sustainable development

Our inspiration consists in the balance that a correct and healthy diet brings to our lives, in harmony with nature.

We seek for the whole production process to be performed using sustainable practices, which are constantly certified and improved.

In a constantly changing world, climate change is the greatest challenge of our time and has to do with us all. We feel the responsibility and adopt measures to reduce its effects, which are certified and constantly improved, promoting good practice in the olive sector, thereby contributing, as far as possible, to a positive change toward this direction. We took action by working outside the box and reducing the emission of gaseous air pollutants.

To begin with, we measured the climate footprint (CO2) of two of our products and move further.

Within our approach to sustainable production, we have developed initiatives in four stages:

in the field • in the olive oil mill • in standardization • on the shelf

For each of these stages, we create a positive impact and contribute to
achieving specific
sustainable development goals

In the field

Our groups of producers adopt climate-neutral, sustainable cultivation practices that respect the natural heritage of our territory. These practices adapt to climate change, to reduce our region’s grower exposure and vulnerability to environmental, economic, and social risks.

More specifically, these practices:

improve the quality of land and soil

minimize the use of chemicals that are discharged into the air, water, and soil.

seek for sustainable water use

contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems in the region

increase agricultural productivity and income of our producers

In the olive oil mill and standardization

While focusing on sustainability, we technologically and operationally upgrade our facilities, systems, technologies, and production processes.
We increase employment, resource productivity, and product production while publishing the results of the practices we implement.

We offer decent job positions, respect all legally defined employment rights, and adopt the International Code of Conduct (Ethics) for Occupational Health and. Safety by providing equal opportunities for leadership, regardless of gender.

On the shelf

We pay attention to the cultural and natural heritage of the Cretan land, but also the importance of the traditional Cretan diet, which is the base of the Mediterranean diet.

Inspired by the Cretan diet, we seek to raise awareness and constantly educate everyone that is involved. From our employees, producers, and the local community, to our suppliers and visitors, but also the consumers of our products, everyone can contribute to a positive change.

Our goal is for more and more people to understand the importance of sustainability by adopting a balanced lifestyle.

our report

Being consistent with its commitment to transparency, Terra Creta publishes a Sustainability Report, the first ever in the field of Greek olive oil. All our actions and goals within the framework of our initiative “Our World 2025” are stated in the 2019-2020 Report, in detail.

quality and certification

We believe that focusing on quality is the only effective way to produce consistently high-quality olive oil and this is achieved by implementing a total quality management system.

The Total Quality Management system we implement exceeds the national, European, and international standard-related requirements. We have established innovative processes that help us achieve and maintain high, exceptional quality.

Using our vertically integrated production, we closely monitor and check every step of the production process, from harvesting and letdown to standardization and sale.

Our goal is to offer products of the highest possible quality that nature can provide us, contributing to the health and well-being of people around the world.

Our Total Quality Management System is based on four principles:

Laboratory analyses

It is important to confirm that each batch of our olive oil complies with the International Standards of the “Extra Virgin” category and that each of its components has significantly lower measurements than the standard ones.

Control procedures

We use the strictest control procedures, analyzing every single drop for insecticides, heavy metals, plasticizers, and other contaminants, thereby ensuring consumer safety.

Nutrients

We pay great attention to health protection by ascertaining that olive oil-related nutrients such as vitamin E, phenols, or antioxidants, etc., are at a high level, in every single drop of our olive oil.

Organoleptic Evaluation

Each batch of olive oil is additionally subjected to a “taste test” to ensure that it is rich in those elements that bring out its natural aromas and rich taste and that it is free of defects.

the extra virgin olive oil experience

Flavor and aroma in an olive oil (or, otherwise, its flavor profile) provide us with important information about its variety, general quality, practices that have been applied from the olive grove to the olive-oil press, storage, and, of course, its beneficial composition of nutrients, such as biophenols (or antioxidants), vitamins, etc.

Excellent olive oil’s flavor profile reflects the robustness of the olive tree itself, peculiarities of each variety, dynamic of the production zone, as well as each producer’s taste. The combination of its natural aromas, along with the bitter and spicy taste notes, offer us a harmonious and pleasant flavor profile which encourages us to enjoy it in our daily diet, along with the appropriate flavor combinations (food pairing).

In addition, they enable us, through sensory evaluation, to classify it into one of the three quality categories:

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Virgin Olive Oil, Lampante, or Industrial Virgin Olive Oil, as defined by applicable law.
